What happens to a text.
How the Chicken Wire preview handles examples and how cloud filtering is designed to work.
What iOS makes available
Apple decides which new SMS and MMS from unknown senders are eligible for filtering. The extension receives one message at a time. Contacts, iMessage, your history, and outgoing messages are outside the filter's scope.
What cloud filtering shares
Live cloud filtering requires configuration in the app and on our server. Before enabling it in the app, you can review what it shares and decide whether to opt in. You can turn it off in Chicken Wire or change your filter in Messages.
- iOS sends the eligible message and its sender to the Chicken Wire server over HTTPS.
- The server discards the sender and screens the text for sensitive information, including obvious verification codes and health details. Texts flagged by the screen skip the OpenAI call.
- The server masks detected links and phone numbers, then sends the remaining text and the classification questions to OpenAI. Screening can miss personal details that appear in a message.
- Messages receives a sorting decision. When there is uncertainty or an error, Chicken Wire lets iOS handle the message as usual.
Storage and retention
The app stores your filtering preference on your device. The service has no accounts, message history, or advertising trackers. Chicken Wire does not write message content to its application logs. Our hosting provider may process connection data to serve and protect the site.
OpenAI retention depends on the API project configuration. This preview leaves live SMS classification off. See OpenAI's Decisions API data controls.
Live SMS filtering is pending real-device testing and privacy review of the third-party data flow.
